The Balvenie DoubleWood 17-year-old single malt whisky was created using Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE's most acclaimed achievements: successive maturation in two different types of barrel, a technique known as 'cask finishing.' The Balvenie DoubleWood is made using this procedure, which involves the whiskey being aged first in American oak barrels, which offer gentle sweet vanilla notes, before being transferred to European oak sherry casks, which add rich spicy flavors and a depth and fullness of flavor. The DoubleWood 17-year-old is the elder sibling of the DoubleWood 12-year-old and shares its honeyed, spicy qualities, but it is distinct, with richer vanilla notes, traces of green apple, creamy caramel, and a stunning richness and complexity.
